London Plaques $15.95 The city of London is dotted with plaques, many of them blue, all commemorating either a famous person who was born, lived, or stayed in that building, or sometimes a significant event that took place, or an earlier use of the site. This book is a comprehensive gazetteer of all of Londons plaques. Using Derek Sumeray’s classic book as a basis, this thoroughly revised new edition arranges plaques alphabetically by area, providing a text that is linked to London’s geography and, therefore, of greater use to a resident or visitor wanting to explore the famous people and events commemorated in that area. Illustrated with photographs of many of the plaques and the places, this is the only guide to all the commemorative plaques in Greater London. From the Trade Paperback edition. |

Wedding Ceremony - Whether Simple Or Quite Involved, Your Wedding Ceremony Is A Lovely Expression Of Your Love
When I had imagined my wedding in the past, my plans had always been fairly straightforward. I wanted a big get-together and a little, straightforward marriage ceremony. I’m never one to stick to tradition. I thought that, if my bride-to-be agreed, a civil marriage ceremony would be sufficient. Of course, we had quite different ideas about what constitutes "appropriate" wedding ceremonies. As much as I wished to pare everything down to the very minimum, she wished to complicate things. She wanted to have ten wedding songs, sung by all different people. I’m as much for wedding songs as the next guy, but there's such a thing as wedding songs overload!
The strange thing is that, in all the other aspects of our wedding, we had agreed on things. We have had no problems choosing a chapel, a wedding party site, or even thank you cards for the gifts that we were going to receive. We are both artists, you see, and it helps that we have the exact same aesthetic. It makes choosing Wedding Dresses, wedding centerpieces, and the like much simpler. We did not even need to hire a wedding organizer – we knew what we wished things to look like. Nonetheless, when it came down to the actual marriage ceremony, we had no common ground. Our ideas were as dissimilar as night and day.
For my fiancé, the mainstream wedding ring ceremony was very important. She was in this very difficult place of having to balance the wants of her family with her own wants. You see, her parents were very mainstream Catholics. The power of parental denial let them pretend that she was even now a practicing Catholic, but we knew that they would become very upset if we did not have a ceremony that was at least nominally Catholicism-related. Nonetheless, she wanted us to compose our marriage vows. In short, we needed to balance two extremely differing things: a mainstream marriage ceremony and a contemporary state of mind where we were in a position to make our own vows. It wasn't simple.
Ultimately, we compromised on the marriage ceremony. I did not care for the public nature of wedding ceremonies, although I had no problem with the promise of devotion. We decided, then, that we would speak the standard vows in the chapel, and speak our own special marriage vows on our own. That way, it can be a more sincere, intimate minute. I would estimate that neither of us were quite happy with it, but nobody was so upset with the results that it would destroy the day. In all, it was a fairly great concession.
