Tracking back the hands of time, this type of fish was first spotted in Cambodia which was anciently known as Siam. This explains the origin of its other name Siamese Fighting Fish. Currently called Betta Fish or Betta Splendens, its glory as one of the most interesting pets has traveled towards the other continents of the world.
It is easy to spot one in a tank. They charmingly swim in their long flowing fins which are usually in various shades of blue, red, purple and white. Males appear in longer fins and more vibrant shade of their usual colors. Females wear stripes in their bodies and fins when healthy.
